LAS VEGAS, NV (November 7, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Friday in Las Vegas, a suspect hit-and-run driver killed a bicyclist while fleeing the scene of a prior crash involving a vehicle.

The November 4 crashes occurred on East Flamingo Road.

The time was roughly a little after 5:30 p.m., according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Reports say the suspect hit-and-run driver--later identified as Marcos Francisco Benitez, a resident of Las Vegas, 27 years old--had been traveling eastbound on East Flamingo Road in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

Authorities allege Benitez rear-ended a Kia Sorrento, and drove away from the crash site at a fast speed.

As Benitez was fleeing on East Flamingo Road, he struck two bicyclists who had been traveling in the bus lane, authorities allege.

After hitting the bicyclists, Benitez is suspected of colliding as many as eight vehicles that were on the eastbound side of East Flamingo Road close to where South Maryland Parkway intersects.

Responders pronounced one of the bicyclists deceased at the crash site.

The identity of the victim--including name, age, gender, and city of residence--has not been reported.

Responders transported the other bicyclist to Sunrise Hospital.

The patient suffered injuries that were described as critical; the person's current condition is not known.

The victim has not been identified in reports.

A number of people who had been traveling in vehicles that were allegedly struck by Benitez suffered injuries, including a driver from California and three passengers.

Another driver suffered injuries that were described as moderate.

Responders transported Benitez to Sunrise Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Reports say he faces charges that include DUI above the legal limit resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

None of the other people involved in the crash have been identified in reports.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
