Rain Causes Traffic Light shortages and Accidents

Rain fell for three hours in the Las Vegas area totaling more than an inch. An electrical fire was triggered in a building and many auto accidents were caused.

The storm caused power outages and shorted out traffic lights, jamming traffic.

A fire was started at Cheyenne Commons Shopping Center.

The fire affected several stores at the Center.

Damage to the building was estimated at $30,000.

The official total rainfall was .75 inches, however many areas received over an inch of rain.

It had been a dry year for Las Vegas.

It was predicted that more rain could fall.

The taxi cab authorities were alerted to aid stalled cars.

There were many accidents on on-ramps and off-ramps.

Low lying areas were closed. A railroad arm was stuck in the down position making it impossible to pass.

Fog was also present, causing reduced visibility.
