Two Car Accident on Reno Highway


An accident occurred between two cars in below zero temperatures resulting in one hospitalization. The accident occurred on McLean Road.

Involved in the accident were Elvira Macias, 38, who was driving a four door sedan, and Carson Gilette, 19 who was driving a Toyota Pickup. Both persons were from Fallon.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Motorcyle Fatalities Up in Nevada in the Past Year

Motor cycle fatalities are reported to have gone down on a national level

in the past year.

Data has been collected from 50 states and The District of Columbia.

The final toll of Nevada fatalities has risen for the past year. Nevada has had double the amount of motor cycle fatalities since last year.

Use of helmets, reducing use of alcohol, and reducing speeding are said to be some factors which could reduce the number of motor cycle fatalities in the state.

Texting and Driving

The National Safety Council stated that cell phone use while driving caused 26% of accidents nationwide last year.

The Council reported that accidents are six times as likely to occur with he use of a cell phone as opposed to accidents which occur when the driver is under the influence of alcohol.

A law was passed in 2012 in Nevada setting the fines at $50-$200 for cell phone use while driving. The National Highway Patrol reported an increase of 67% in tickets given this year.

There are reports of grass roots efforts to address cell phone use while driving, all over the country. Many are based on education about the issue and by adults setting an example for young people.

One noted effort is being promoted by AT&T with its “It Can Wait” campaign.

Accident at Busy Intersection

Tuesday, November 25, 2014 an accident occurred between a Nissan SUV and a Buick Regal The Nissan SUV ran the stop sign.

There were no injuries. The two cars were damaged in the accident.

The Nissan simply didn’t stop at the intersection.

The driver of the Nissan was given a tick for running a stop sign.

Las Vegas Drivers Are More Likely to Have Accidents

Las Vegas September 2, 2010

Las Vegas placed number 144 on Allstate Insurance Company’s annual America’s Best Driver’s Report. The report listed 200 major cities in which auto accidents occurred.

North Las Vegas ranked number 126. Henderson ranked number 96. Reno ranked number 7.

People in Las Vegas were said to have accidents 21% more frequently thank average. It was reported that every driver in the city would average a collision once in 8.3 years.

Las Vegas ranked 153 last year. Drivers were 28.7 more prone to have an accident than average in Las Vegas last year.

This is the sixth year of Allstate’s analysis. Data used was taken from Allstate customers comprising 11% of all auto insurance policies in the U.S.

Fort Collins, Colorado was reported to be the safest city in which to drive.

Some of the worst cities listed were Hartford, Connecticut, Newark, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
