June 28th ─ 3 fatalities occurred over the weekend, one involved an accident with a motorcycle and a vehicle, the other two involved accidents between pedestrians and a vehicles. The first accident occurred Friday evening around 8:06 p.m. at the intersection of El Capitan Way and Flamingo Road. Police responded to reports of a crash between a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle and a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. According to Metro police, the motorcyclist was traveling east on Flamingo Road at a high rate of speed before colliding with the Hyundai Elantra that was traveling west on Flamingo. The Hyundai was making a left turn into an apartment complex when the accident happened. Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist was driving fast but he wasn’t exceeding the speed limit. The Hyundai Elantra driver did not seem impaired. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the Hyundai was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The accident is still under investigation but Metro Police said that the Hyundai driver had failed to yield to the motorcyclist’s right of way which factored in the accident. It is unclear whether the Hyundai driver will face criminal charges but police remind drivers of the importance of being clear of traffic before attempting to make a turn.

June 28th ─ a Las Vegas family is mourning the loss of two cousins who were killed during a traffic accident Saturday evening. The accident occurred just before 10:00 p.m. when Metro Police received calls of an accident in the northeast part of Las Vegas. Officers responded and arrived at the intersection of Judson Avenue and Marion Drive to find two wrecked vehicles. According to Metro Police and witnesses, a 2000 Ford Expedition ran a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a 2016 Kia Soul. The driver of the Ford Expedition was arrested on scene for suspicions of being under the influence of alcohol. The driver was identified as Pablo Torres Esparza, 36-years old of Las Vegas.
June 15th ─ a moped driver is dead after a collision involving a dump-truck late Wednesday afternoon in the northeast of Las Vegas Valley, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred at 2:17 p.m. near South Nellis Boulevard and East Sahara Avenue. Witnesses told LVMPD officers that they saw a 1994 Freightliner Dump Truck traveling north on Nellis Boulevard crossing through Sahara Avenue when a 2016 Vespa moped traveled through Nellis Boulevard going east on Sahara Avenue and collided with the dump truck. The moped driver was ejected from his Vespa and landed on the street. Witnesses told police that the dump truck had a green light, and that the moped driver failed to stop for a red light. The accident closed the intersection for several hours as police investigated all the evidence at the scene. The driver of the dump truck did not sustain any injuries and remained at the scene until first responders arrived.
15-Year Old Girl Hit By Car
June 13th ─ Police are investigating the death of a 15-year old Reno girl who was struck by a vehicle Friday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday evening when the Reno Police Department received calls about a hit and run on West Plumb Lane and Krupp Circle in Reno. Authorities arrived to find a 15-year old girl lying in the middle of West Plumb Lane with serious head injuries. The girl was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation releasing their findings in a press statement that the girl was most likely crossing Plumb Lane when she was hit by the suspect.
June 7th ─ a bicyclist is dead after being hit by a dump trunk on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of South Nellis Boulevard and East Walnut Avenue as the bicyclist was crossing South Nellis Boulevard. The bicyclist failed to yield to traffic and crossed the path of a dump truck according to Metropolitan Police Department. Nellis Boulevard was closed in all directions from Bonanza Road until Walnut Avenue. No information has been released as to the identity of the bicyclist, but Metro Police say victim was in his 40s and that he was transported to University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Unit where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Clark County Coroner’s Office said they will release more information when the victim’s family has come forward.
June 5th ─ one man is dead and a woman, who was identified as his wife, suffered serious injuries after having been hit by an SUV on Friday evening. The incident occurred sometime around 6:30 p.m. when police received calls about a car that had hit two joggers and flipped over on Melrose Drive near Shadowridge Drive in Vista. The couple was on the sidewalk going northbound on Melrose Drive, when they were struck by the SUV. The husband and wife were later identified as 40-year old Nanglee Vang and 30-year old Molly Vang. Nanglee was killed instantly by the impact of the SUV, while his wife was thrown from the sidewalk into some bushes along the embankment. The SUV then flipped over, landing on the roof with the driver stuck inside. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from his vehicle. Authorities identified the driver as a 24-year old resident of San Diego.
