LAS VEGAS, NV (June 16, 2018) – Clark County Coroner’s Office has announced the death of a 55-year old man who was critically injured after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Burnham Avenue, May 24th. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Collision Investigation Section was not notified after medical staff said that the man had succumbed to his injuries he sustained in the crash. The incident occurred nearly 1 month ago, when the 55-year old man had been crossing Flamingo Road traveling northbound in the marked cross walk on the west side of the intersection around 4:00 p.m. Witness testimony indicate that a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle was traveling eastbound in the left travel lanes.

The Beetle then struck the pedestrian forcing him to the ground. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the man was crossing in a marked crosswalk, but witnesses suggest that he had a "Don't Walk" signal and that the all cars traveling eastbound had a green traffic signal. According to LVMPD, the driver of the vehicle did not display any signs of impairment immediately following the collision. The driver was identified as 23-year old Donna Hunter of Las Vegas. Hunter was visibly distraught according to witnesses and remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Sunrise Medical Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and listed in critical condition. He later died on June 16th. This death marked the 65th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction since the beginning of 2018. The collision remains under investigation by the Collision Investigation Section.
