Man Runs over Girlfriend near Las Vegas Sign

March 2, 2018 | Pedestrian Accident

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is commending a limo driver and his passengers on Wednesday for their involvement in stopping the driver of a van, who was later identified as John Treese, from fleeing the scene of an apparent intentional hit-and-run of Treese’s girlfriend that happened on Saturday night, Feb. 18th. According to LVMPD arrest log, a limo driver had witnessed the events while on duty with 2 passengers. The limo driver said he saw the Treese’s girlfriend, identified as Lisa Gori Snyder, exit the suspects van, and walk along the median on Las Vegas Boulevard and Russell Road near the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign.

Treese then accelerated the van and drove onto the median where he struck and ran over Snyder. When Treese saw Snyder lying injured in the median he stopped to give her aid. The limo driver then said that he saw Treese acting erratic and attempted to return to the van. That was when the limo driver’s customers exited the limo and prevented Treese from fleeing the scene. The driver then called 911 and held Treese until authorities arrived. Officers arrived to find a 2006 Honda Odyssey along with Snyder’s body in the median. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Treese told officers that he had been arguing with Snyder who he admitted was his girlfriend. Treese said that he was arguing with Synder because she wanted to drive and that when he attempted to make a U-turn, Snyder exited the van and was accidentally ran over. An officer conducted a field sobriety test and administered a portable Breathalyzer test on Treese, who He a .065 BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) then a .067 BAC. During an interview with LVMPD police, Treese denied consuming any alcohol and gave different accounts of what transpired only saying, “it happened quickly.” Officers, however, did not believe Treese's story. Evidence collected at the scene suggests that the Honda Odyssey climbed up onto the median on Las Vegas Boulevard near Russell Road, then drove all the way back off of it, then spun out in the southbound lanes. This would require the accelerator to be “floored” for the length of the median, according to investigators familiar with vehicular accidents. “ Investigators collected Snyder’s purse and lunch bag outside of the van which suggested she had time to gather her belongings which contradicted Treese’s statements that ‘it all happened so quickly’,” said LVMPD Traffic Fatality investigator. Treese was booked for open murder and has a court hearing scheduled for Thursday.
