September 20th ─ Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision between a LVMPD patrol cruiser and a vehicle that closed off several blocks of Las Vegas Boulevard in the South Valley early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. when LVMPD responded to an officer call to dispatch that he had been involved in a rear-end accident with another vehicle. According to an eyewitness, he was out walking his dog when he saw a vehicle coming south on Las Vegas Boulevard. The eyewitness says both the car and the officer were heading in the same direction when the rear-end collision happened, moments after they passed Serene Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was killed instantly and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.

The officer involved in the collision was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Due to Metro involvement and the death of a civilian, the LVMPD requested that the Henderson Police Department to take over the investigation. The name and age of the man killed in the collision has not been released to the public until the man’s next of kin is contacted, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Bureau.
