September 5th ─ 6 teenagers ranging in ages from 13 to 17-years old are in custody after a pursuit ended in a wreck where 3 family members were hospitalized with serious injuries in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles late Monday night. The incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers began a pursuit with a vehicle they believed to be stolen in an assault with a deadly weapon incident that was reported by the vehicle’s owner in Inglewood. A short time after the pursuit began the stolen vehicle, a Nissan Altima, was heading south on Central Avenue when it passed through the intersection at Gage Avenue and slammed into another car, a Honda Accord carrying 3 occupants.

The Nissan Altima continued south on Central Avenue, where it crashed into a parked car and came to a stop. 6 occupants were inside that Nissan Altima, all were teenage juveniles described as 4 boys and 2 girls. All were medically treated at the scene, including 1 who had a broken leg. The victims in the Honda Accord were 3 members of the same family, an adult man, an adult woman, and a 5-year old girl. The adult woman and child were transported by ambulance to a hospital and listed in critical condition. The man was also transported and has been listed in serious condition, according to medical personnel.

Los Angeles Police Department Detective Meghan Aguilar called the crash "very serious." Aguilar continued, “We know that when firefighter and paramedics arrived on scene, they went to extraordinary means to safely remove the occupants of that vehicle – serious injuries here," she said. "The suspects, not sure how fast they were going, but to actually push that vehicle to the corner and see that damage, you know that impact had to be significant.” The teenage juveniles have been taken into custody at a local police station, where LAPD police are still trying to determine what charges the teens will face. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, according to Aguilar, who indicated the suspects will likely face stolen vehicle charges, as well as others related to the pursuit and crash.
