Elderly Woman Fined, Has License Revoked

A 78-year-old woman was fined $5000 and had her license revoked for two years after hitting three kids with her car, and killing a young girl.
The woman, Alice Alava, pleaded no contest on Thursday to charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian, unlawfully passing vehicles stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and failure to pay attention while driving.
Her vehicle struck three young kids, ages 5 through 6, including 6-year-old Mia Decker, who was killed as a result of the accident.
Alava was booked in the North Las Vegas Detention Center following the Thursday hearing and must pay a $5,000 fine upon her release, along with turning in her license.
