Several traffic accidents killed six and seriously injured two more over the weekend on Nevada’s roads, despite local PD’s best efforts.

The tragic series of accidents began on Friday when a 63-year-old woman was killed when a vehicle veered off the road and hit her on the sidewalk. On Saturday morning, two teenagers drove into a palm tree, which critically injured the driver and killing the passenger.

Later that day, a pedestrian was killed in Laughlin as he tried to cross the street outside of a crosswalk. Just hours later, a husband and wife in Summerlin died when their car erupted into flames after a crash.

On Sunday, another man was killed in a solo accident when his SUV rolled in Laughlin, bringing the total number of people killed to 6.

Nevada Police are searching for answers as fatal accidents continue to occur with increasing frequency. Despite vehicle and pedestrian safety events being held to crack down on distracted driving and unsafe pedestrian behavior, authorities say people just aren’t listening.

As long as pedestrians continue to cross streets outside of the crosswalk, these accidents will continue, says North Las Vegas Police Officer Chrissie Coon.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, 69 people have been killed in traffic related accidents on Nevada’s roads this year.
