Las Vegas Police Officer Arrested After Suspected DUI Crash on US 95

Las Vegas, NV (April 13th, 2023) – Off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Benjamin Coreas was arrested following a suspected DUI crash on US 95 that resulted in a critically injured driver and a dog rescued from the wreckage. The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 4:45 a.m. on US 95 northbound, south of Summerlin Parkway.
Benjamin Coreas was Identified as the Off-Duty Officer Involved in the DUI Crash
According to Nevada State Police, a dark-colored Jeep driven by Coreas was traveling north on US 95 in a reckless manner before colliding with the rear of a silver Toyota. The impact sent the Toyota veering off onto the Summerlin Parkway off-ramp, where it came to rest. Meanwhile, the Jeep overturned and landed on its roof on the US 95 travel lanes.
While the Jeep was motionless in the travel lanes, a white Toyota traveling north on the freeway slammed into it. The driver of the white Toyota was critically injured and rushed to the University Trauma Center. However, the dog that was in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
Coreas Booked Into Las Vegas City Jail
Coreas was placed under arrest on suspicion of impairment. He has been employed with the LVMPD since 2020 and is assigned to the West Community Policing Division, South Central Area Command. He was booked into Las Vegas City Jail on misdemeanor charges.
The driver of the silver Toyota did not report any injuries. The authorities cleared the crash scene just before 11 a.m., and all lanes have since reopened. The incident serves as a reminder to everyone about the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of responsible driving.
