Las Vegas Man Arrested for Fatal DUI Crash on The Strip

Las Vegas, NV (April 4, 2023) – On April 4, 2023, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a drunk driver on the Las Vegas Strip. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Brandon Kelekolio, was arrested at the scene, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
This Was Kelekolio's Second DUI In 4 Months
Kelekolio had been previously arrested for DUI just four months prior to the fatal crash. He now faces charges of reckless driving resulting in death, DUI resulting in death, and driving with a revoked license due to a prior DUI arrest on December 15, 2022.
The victim has been identified as Gewadin Elliot, a 45-year-old man from Ontario, Canada. Elliot was crossing the intersection at Las Vegas Boulevard and Ceasars Palace Drive when Kelekolio's car hit him. Although Elliot was in a marked crosswalk, he was walking against a "do not walk" signal, according to LVMPD.
The DUI Crash Was Captured On Video
Video surveillance captured the incident, which showed Kelekolio's car striking Elliot as he crossed the intersection. Police said that Kelekolio repeatedly asked if the pedestrian was okay and was suspected of being impaired.
An officer at the scene observed that Kelekolio smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet. Kelekolio voluntarily submitted to and failed standardized field sobriety tests before being arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
The pedestrian's death marks the 30th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2023.
Kelekolio is currently being held on a $50,000 bond and is due to appear in court on April 10. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of obeying traffic signals and laws.
