Wrong Way DUI Killed Two

A 52 year old man was sentenced to 8-20 years for an accident which killed two when he was DUI going the wrong way. Gustavo Martinez-Garcia of North Las Vegas crossed the median on Summerlin Parkway and hit a Toyoto Corolla. Twenty year old Savanna Gonzales and Thirty-one year old Frank Anthony Spenia III were killed.
Martinez-Garcia sustained non-life threatening injuries. He pleaded guilty to a DUI. His blood alcohol level was found to have been .22% at the time of the accident.
Mr. Martinez-Garcia received a $5,000.00 fine in addition to the years sentenced. Also he was ordered to have an alcohol monitor device installed on his vehicle for three years after the accident.
Both families of the beloved reported suffering from emotional pain from the deaths.
Mr. Martinez-Garcia had been convicted of DUI's twice before. He stated that he accepted responsibility for the accident and for the deaths.
Ms. Gonzales' car was totally destroyed.
Ms. Gonzales and Mr. Spenia were on their way to visit a family member when the truck hit their car.
The Judge who heard the case expressed a loss of faith in people, acknowledging the frequency of this type of accident occurring in the community.
