Woman Arrested for Fatal DUI Crash

July 7, 2017 | Car Accident

July 7th ─ One of two suspects is under arrest in connection with a fatal collision between a stolen pickup truck and 2 other vehicles in west Las Vegas Wednesday afternoon. That suspect was identified by Metro Police as 26-year old Oriana Leausa of Arizona. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Fort Apache Road between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. According to Metro Police, the 2 suspects, Leausa and a male suspect believed to be her boyfriend, had met with an individual off Craigslist who was selling a gray BMW at an unspecified parking lot.

The male suspect got in the BMW, pretending that he couldn't open the door and sped-off. Leausa followed him in a stolen 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, but so did their victims. The victim chased Leausa and her accomplice while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher. Metro's Air Patrol Unit was deployed and spotted the suspects. Witness Sam Metcalf, an employee at a grocery store near the crash site, describe the events that followed, "Well I was putting some bottles in one of my customers' cars, and I heard this loud bang, and I looked over, and there was a police car that was hit”.

An officer had attempted to block Leausa in, but she hit the accelerator and rammed into the police cruiser, injuring the officer. Leausa then proceeded north on Fort Apache Road where right before the intersection at Charleston Boulevard, she lost control and crashed the pickup truck into two cars. A woman driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, died from the impact of the collision. A second woman who was driving a 2007 Saturn Aura was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma Unit where she is expected to recover. The injured officer had non-life threatening injuries. Leausa was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI involving death where she faces multiple charges including felony manslaughter, felony DUI, grand theft auto, felony reckless endangerment, and felony evading and resisting arrest. This marks the 74th traffic related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since January 2017.

Metro Police are still looking for the male suspect who evaded arrest in the stolen grey BMW that didn't have any license plates. He is described as a Hispanic male about 6’1 or 6’2, with a heavy build, and was last seen wearing a white tee-shirt and work boots. Metro Police are urging anyone with information on this crash or the whereabouts of the remaining male suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
