Tractor Trailer Truck Crashes, Driver Dies
February 10, 2012 | Car Accident
A big rig truck crashed and caught on fire while traveling northbound on Highway 395, but officials say it was not due to the weather.
The Walmart tractor trailer rig was traveling north on the 395 near Reno between Hallelujah Junction and Red Rock Road when, for an unknown reason, he collided with an embankment. The driver has been identified as 62-year-old Clarence Carpenter of Los Molinos, California.
The condition of the road was not icy, according to Nevada State Troopers. It may however, have been wet. The truck shot off the road for more than 100 yards. The skid marks indicated that the driver did attempt to stop, which may point to the driver being asleep or the possibility of a medical issue.
The diesel fuel that the rig was hauling caught on fire and caused the truck to burn up.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
