An accident involving three cars took the life of a middle aged man and hospitalized another took place early Monday morning along U.S. 95.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred just before 4 a.m. this morning on the highway between Ann and Craig Roads as three cars were harmfully introduced to each other.

A 55-year-old man was killed in the crash and another was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were described as non-life threatening. A third participant in the crash received treatment for minor wounds at the scene of the accident.

Southbound lanes of the major freeway were shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage. All lanes were finally reopened by 9:30 this morning.

At this time the cause of the accident is not yet known, and local authorities are conducting an investigation. The identity of the man killed in the accident is being withheld until the family has been notified.
