A male teenager was hit by a car whilst attempting to cross the street in downtown Las Vegas Monday evening.

According to Las Vegas police, a 16-year-old male was crossing the street on Tropicana Avenue from the south to the north curb when he was struck by Mercedes Benz driven by 33-year-old Shaine Mcclain.

The teenager was reportedly not in the crosswalk while attempting to make the crossing, and was transported to Sunrise Hospital for serious injuries sustained in the accident.

Mcclain remained on the scene to speak with police and answer questions.

The accident is still under investigation, and police are exploring whether or not there were other causes aside from the teenager crossing outside of the crosswalk.
