Eager motorists looking to take to Interstate 15 may find themselves in a sea of traffic and frustration as planned closures will take place in a few weeks.

The first closure is scheduled to take place on the southbound lanes from Russell Road to Interstate 215 from 10 p.m. May 22 to 5 a.m. on the 23^rd. A second scheduled closure will occur from June 1^st to the 5^th.

Ramps from Flamingo Road, Tropicana Boulevard, and Russell to I-15 South and Dean Martin Drive will also be shut down.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is enacting these closures in order to remove an old railroad bridge over I-15 South and replacing it with a new one.

Traffic is expected to be detoured from the highway at Russell Road, westbound to Decatur on to the 215 Beltway, which leads back to the southbound I-15. Other detours through the area will be available as well.

This road closure comes as the latest in the transportation department’s i_15 Design-Build South project, designed to improve and expand the number of lanes along the interstate from Tropicana Avenue around Silverado Ranch Boulevard.
