Las Vegas Metro police said they are investigating after a motorcyclist was left in critical condition following a collision on a stolen motorcycle near McCarran Airport in the central valley early Tuesday morning, Oct. 24th. The incident occurred shortly after 1:20 a.m. when a passing driver reported to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department of a downed motorcycle and rider on Topaz Street, near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Eastern Avenue. First responders arrived to find a man, between the ages of 25-years old and 30-years old lying on the road of Topaz Street. According to LVMPD preliminary investigation, the Yamaha XVS 950 the motorcyclist was riding was reported stolen in the overnight hours from a home in the area Saturday night.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle after, for reasons unknown, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole. The motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital Trauma Center, where he was put determined to be in extremely critical condition with severe head injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and it is unclear whether alcohol or drugs factored into the collision. LVMPD Sgt. Robert Stauffer of Metro’s fatal crash detail said no one witnessed the crash so it is hard to determine exactly what transpired.
