Pedestrian on Phone Struck and Killed in Nevada

Las Vegas, NV (December 30, 2018) - Authorities are investigating the death of a 23-year old Boston man who was struck by a vehicle in Las Vegas early Sunday morning December 30th. According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred sometime around 7:30 A.M. near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Captain Nick Farese with LVMPD’S traffic bureau stated that “it looks like our pedestrian was crossing in a marked crosswalk, but was crossing against traffic signal.
It seems that a cell phone may have played a role in this fatal incident. It seems that this tragedy could have been avoided”. The driver of the 2017 Honda Civic, 22-year old David Deluna, did not show signs of impairment and excessive speeding was ruled out. CCTV video footage shows the pedestrian was not paying attention and had their face in their phone, as the traffic signal was telling them to wait. This is a deadly reminder of the need to always be alert.
