Pedestrian Killed by Passing Ambulance
April 23, 2012 | Car Accident
In a fatally ironic turn of affairs, a man was killed Sunday evening after being hit by an emergency vehicle.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the accident happened along East Lake Mead Boulevard, just west of Pecos Road at 7:54 p.m. when an ambulance struck a passing pedestrian.
The man that was struck was reportedly not in a marked crosswalk when the collision took place.
EMTs inside the ambulance tried to save the man, bringing him to University Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead soon after arriving.
At this time it is not known if the ambulance was speeding or performing a dangerous maneuver, or if it was responding to a call at the time.
The identity of the man killed has need been released, as the Clark County coroner’s office has yet to notify the victim’s family. This is the first pedestrian death within North Las Vegas this year, a stark contrast to the extremely high number of pedestrian deaths in downtown Las Vegas.
