Pedestrian Killed By Ambulance Identified
May 1, 2012 | Car Accident
A man who was killed after walking into the path of an oncoming ambulance in April has been identified.
According to the Clark County Coroner’s Office, 46-year-old Carlos J. Hernandez was jaywalking across Lake Mead Boulevard near Pecos Road in Las Vegas at about 8 p.m. on April 22nd when he was run down by a passing ambulance.
Hernandez was not in a sanctioned crosswalk when the accident took place, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. No one else was injured in the incident.
The city of Las Vegas is in the middle of a losing battle with pedestrian and driver safety. Although distracted and dangerous driving is causing a number of fatal accidents throughout the city, unsafe pedestrian behavior is also rampant.
If Las Vegas is going to curb the number of fatalities that take place, both parties are going to need to make a concentrated effort to obey the rules of the road. While both drivers and pedestrians continue to disregard rules put in place to keep people safe, accidents like the one that killed Carlos Hernandez will continue to happen.
