July 18, 2017 | Negligence
July 17th ─ Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that killed an 89-year old man after he was attempting to cross Boulder Highway at Desert Horizons Drive Saturday morning in the southeast Las Vegas valley. The collision happened just before 9:00 a.m. when Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Desert Horizons Drive, near Russell Road.
According to authorities, a 76-year-old driver of an Acura TL struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road, outside of the marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Unit in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff. Police said the 76-year-old man driving the sedan did not show any signs of impairment and remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities from the onset and throughout. The investigation is ongoing and Clark County Coroner’s offices say they will release information as soon as next of kin is notified. This death marks the 79th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since the beginning of 2017.
