Officer-Involved Crash Leaves One Dead
February 3, 2012 | Car Accident
The relatives of the victim of an officer-involved crash are taking their case to court.
In 2007, Las Vegas Metro police officer Jared Wicks allegedly sped through an intersection without his sirens or lights on. His patrol car hit Raymond Yeghi-Azarian, 47, who later died from his related injuries.
After the accident, a jury awarded more than $2 million, but the amount was reduced to $50,000 for each of the family members because that was the maximum amount allowed in Nevada at the time.
This time the family is filing a civil suit claiming that the Metro officers tampered and withheld evidence throughout the investigation which was a violation of the family’s right to a fair trial.
The family seeks more than $7 million in compensation. The Las Vegas police department has filed an appeal.
