Kathy Graves learned the hard way that Nevada law does not cover insurance for uninsured motorists for taxis and their passengers.
New Year's Eve morning, Graves got into a taxi. She did not buckle her seat belt.
The cab was hit by a vehicle which ran a red light.
Graves had minor injuries but did not go to the hospital. She fractured her finger in the accident. Graves had no insurance. She worked in catering.
The accident was a hit and run. Graves fell through a loophole in taxicab insurance law. Graves can no longer work in catering because of her injury. She has relinquished plans to start her own business.
