A multistage accident in downtown Las Vegas has left a massive pile of twisted metal and two dead early Monday morning.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the accident began at 9:21 a.m. when a Hummer SUV was traveling east down Flamingo Road when it ran through a red light and hit a Toyota sedan making a turn on a green light.

The resulting impact sent the sedan into the intersection of Flamingo and Swenson Street and into a small tour bus.

The driver of the Hummer was ejected from his car as a result of the impact and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Toyota was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Three people in the tour bus were also sent to the hospital with injuries, though none are life threatening.

The intersection was closed down to allow for cleanup of the scene and an investigation of the accident. Motorists are being told to avoid the area all together until the scene is cleaned at the street reopened.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. An investigation will determine if fines and citations are due, and the names of those killed in the accident will be released upon notifying their families.
