A man was killed early Wednesday morning after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a car on Boulder Highway in Henderson.

According to the Henderson Police Department, an officer reported seeing two motorcycles racing down Racetrack road and tried to pull the two over.

Lights and sirens were engaged to prompt the two bikers to stop, but they ignored the message and drove on. The officer chose not to pursue and turned off his lights.

The riders split off into different directions, one going westbound on Horizon Drive and the other onto the northbound lanes of Boulder Highway.

The Boulder Highway bound motorcycle accelerated up to speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to official estimates, running through several red lights before smashing into the back of a Honda Accord being piloted by 61 year old Randy Finn, a Henderson resident, near the intersection of Lake Mead Parkway.

The force of the collision jettisoned the rider from his motorcycle. Paramedics declared the 20 year old man dead at the scene where he was found. The identity of the man has not yet been released; authorities are still at work notifying his next of kin.

The driver of the Accord was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was quickly released. The back of his car was not as fortunate.

Although speed was a definitely factor in the crash, investigators are determining if drugs or alcohol were involved as well. Police closed down a portion of the northbound lanes of Boulder Highway to look for anything that might provide answers, as well as to clean up the debris that was scattered across lanes.
