A motorcyclist was killed after being run over by a dump truck in a busy intersection Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas.

The mayhem began with an unidentified traffic problem that caused the man’s motorcycle to tip over, spilling him out onto the crowded intersection of Boulder Highway and Nellis Avenue. Witnesses say that while he was on the ground, a dump truck drove through the intersection and over the man.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office as 71-year-old Dennis M. Grady of Las Vegas was killed as result of the incident.

After driving over Grady, the driver of the dump truck then reportedly got out of his vehicle, saw the rider laying the street, got back into the vehicle and drove away from the scene.

This started a search for a dark-colored dump truck heading northbound on either Nellis or Boulder Highway from the scene. After a few hours, police received a call from a truck driver saying that thought he may have driven over someone. He was questioned by officers and his vehicle was searched for any signs of evidence, though no arrest has yet been made.

Little is known about the traffic incident that caused Grady’s motorcycle to tip over; only that it required the motorcyclist to stop and wait. Police shut down the intersection in both directions as crews cleaned up the scattered debris and investigators searched for clues.
