July 7th ─ Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) say they have arrested a man for his involvement with a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a woman Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. near Interstate 215 and Sunset Road. According to authorities, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by a male driver, was heading south on the 215 and Sunset Road off-ramp while a Toyota Camry was passing through the intersection traveling west on Sunset Road. Eyewitnesses told troopers that the Ford pickup ran a red light and struck the passenger side of the Toyota Camry. The Ford then rolled over and hit a concrete median landing right-side up. The driver of the Toyota Camry was identified as 22-year old Savannah Aguilar, of Las Vegas. Aguilar was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

NHP troopers identified and arrested 29-year old Lance Kaanoi Jr., who fled the scene on foot after running the red light. He was apprehended by troopers a short time later. Kaanoi was treated and released from Southern Hills Hospital and booked into Clark County Detention Center. He has been charged with Felony Hit and run resulting in injury/death, Felony Duty to give information and render aid, misdemeanor reckless driving with death, and misdemeanor failure to obey traffic signal. This marks NHP Southern Command’s 33rd fatal crash resulting in 35 lives lost.
