Las Vegas, NV. (May 27, 2018) - A chain-reaction collision involving 4-vehicles has left 1 person in critical condition and 7 others suffering from minor injuries in central Las Vegas, May 27th. The incident occurred just before 3:00 a.m. near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Decatur Boulevard when Las Vegas Police Department police dispatchers received reports of a 4-vehicle critical injury traffic collision.

Evidence collected at the scene and witness statements indicate that a 2002 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Charleston Boulevard approaching Decatur Boulevard when a 1997 Toyota Tacoma along with a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta were both traveling northbound on Decatur Boulevard approaching Charleston Boulevard. A 2013 Ford F150 that was stopped in the left turn lane in the southbound lanes of Decatur Boulevard when the Honda Accord struck the right passenger side of the Toyota Tacoma causing both vehicles to spin out of control. The Volkswagen Jetta then struck the right side of the Honda Accord causing the Honda to come to a rest in the northbound lanes of Decatur Boulevard. The Toyota Tacoma collided into the front of the Ford F150 and then came to a rest in the left turn lane of Decatur Boulevard right in front of the Ford F150.

1 occupant of the Honda Accord suffered critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center where they were treated by medical staff. 7 others were also transported to University Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and later discharged. LVMPD has released the identity of the Honda Accord driver as 23-year old Santiago Herrera-Gerald, of Las Vegas. According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section, Herrera-Gerald exhibited signs of impairment and was first treated at UMC for minor injuries and later released into police custody where he was booked into Clark County Detention Center where he will be charged with felony DUI resulting in injury.
