LAS VEGAS, NV (October 4, 2022) – Katarina Johnson--18 years old--was killed in a head-on crash near Boulder City last week involving a driver suspected of DUI. The September 26 crash occurred on U.S. 95.

The time was roughly 12:30 a.m., according to Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division.

A vehicle--described as a Hyundai Genesis--was heading south on the highway. In an area close to mile marker 53, the Hyundai went into the lane of opposing traffic, for reasons that are not known.

According to authorities, the Hyundai collided head on with a Nissan Versa.

Responders pronounced the driver of the Nissan deceased at the crash site.

The victim was identified as Johnson, a resident of Henderson, 18 years old.

Johnson was a freshman at UNLV, reports say.

Responders transported the driver of the Hyundai to a hospital. The types of injuries she suffered have not been reported.

She was later arrested by authorities on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in death.

The suspect driver was identified as Taylor Madison.

Investigators are continuing their work to collect information and details regarding the crash to understand why it happened.
