Jaywalker Killed in Hit and Run
April 17, 2012 | Car Accident
Vegas Police are on the lookout for a driver who struck and killed a woman illegally crossing Boulder Highway early Monday morning.
According to reports, the woman was making her way across the oft-driven highway outside of the crosswalk in front of the Boulder Station Casino at 4 a.m. when she was run down by an unidentified vehicle.
The woman was killed as a result of the collision, and the vehicle drove off before witnesses could identify the make or model. Police are asking anyone with information on the accident or the vehicle involved to notify them immediately.
Locals who live and work in the area say that the stretch of roadway is filled with jaywalkers ignoring the crosswalks. Marv Adams, a business owner along Boulder Highway, says that the bus stop near the intersection is too far from the crosswalk, and people are unwilling to make their way down the street just to cross.
However, laziness is no excuse for failing to follow the rules put in place to keep people safe. Crosswalks are safe zones for pedestrians to cross the street, and crossing outside of them is a dangerous, and often fatal, gamble.
