Hit and Run Driver Caught
May 16, 2012 | Car Accident
Police have arrested a man for killing a pedestrian while behind the wheel and fleeing from the scene Tuesday in Las Vegas.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 59-year-old Tomas Del-Angel of Las Vegas was driving a 1997 Nissan Altima sedan South Nellis Boulevard at 11:02 p.m. when he struck and killed a passing pedestrian.
The collision took place just north of East Flamingo Road, and the pedestrian was crossing outside of a legal crosswalk. Del-Angel did not stop after hitting the pedestrian, instead driving off into the night.
Police investigators were able to find the driver a short time later and he was arrested for driving under the influence. A deeper investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
The identity of the victim is to be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once the next of kin has been identified.
This fatality marks the 52nd traffic related death in the jurisdiction of the LV Metro Police department so far this year.
