Gas Prices Lower Than Expected

May 29, 2012 | Car Accident

The price of a gallon of gas has dropped lower than projected throughout the county, according to new research by senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan.

Analysis completed in January of this year suggested that the national average for a gallon of gas would peek between $3.75 and $4.15 during the summer months. However, the national average hit its height of $3.92 on April 5th, much earlier than projected, leading to lower rates over the summer months.

"Summer driving season has officially begun with the national average falling far lower than we expected it earlier this year," said DeHaan, from GasBuddy.com. "The national average has dropped to a surprising $3.65/gal mark as of today. Had you asked me back in January if the national average would have been that low on Memorial Day, I would likely have chuckled, but it goes to show anything is possible," DeHaan said.

Over the last week, the national average has dropped 3.6 seconds per gallon, down to $3.65 In Las Vegas, the price has dipped 2.2 cents to an average of $3.85 throughout the area.

Prices are down an average of 15.7 cents over the last month, and 13.4 cents from the same time last year. In Las Vegas, prices are down 2.3 cents over the month and 12.3 cents over the last year.

Lower gas prices encourage motorists to take to the road. With a larger volume of vehicles on the road, accidents increase in frequency. As the state plunges into the dog days of summer, it is important to stay vigilant and stay safe on the road.

With more obstacles to pay attention to, and traffic an inevitability, it doesn’t take much to find yourself in a dangerous situation, staring down a terrible accident. As you pack up the minivan for your family vacation, take heed of the throngs of other people also hitting the road.
