Las Vegas- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision between a motorcyclist and 6 other vehicles that were stopped at a busy intersection Saturday evening, July 6th. According to authorities, the collision occurred at the intersection of South Decatur Boulevard and West Flamingo Road sometime after 8:30 P.M.

Witness statements and evidences recovered at the scene indicate the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Flamingo Road through a green light while a white 4-door Nissan Altima, that was traveling northbound on South Decatur Boulevard, entered the intersection against a red light. The front passenger’s side of the Nissan Altima was struck by the motorcycle ejecting the rider. The motorcycle careened over a median and continued northbound until it struck the front of a GMC Yukon.

The Nissan Altima then collided with a Nissan Sentra that was stopped in the second left turn lane of South Decatur Boulevard. The force of impact caused the Nissan Sentra to collide into the front of a stopped Chevrolet Traverse. 2 other stopped vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Rogue were also damaged during the secondary collision. The motorcyclist was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The driver of the white Nissan Altima fled the scene on foot before police and medical personnel could respond. This death marks the 56th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since the beginning of 2019.
