Family of Accident Victim Not Giving Up Hope
May 12, 2012 | Car Accident
The family of a 17 year old girl refuses to give up hope for a full recovery after an accident that put her into a coma six months ago.
Aleasha Billing, who celebrated a birthday on Thursday, was walking across Lone Mountain Road, near El Capitan in Las Vegas when she was hit by a passing car the day after Thanksgiving.
An investigation into the accident determined that the driver was not at fault; there no street lights to illuminate the area or crosswalks to delineate a safe place to pass. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The collision put the girl into a coma, where she is still hooked up to a ventilator and nonresponsive today. Doctors are unable to say if or how Aleasha will recover.
Billing’s family has not been deterred, however. Her mother and sister are around her as much as possible, and are both fully expecting Aleasha to awaken and resume her life as she lived before.
"I'll keep waiting, and will be here when she [wakes up]," says her mother. "I'm not losing my faith or hope in that."
