An elderly woman is being held and questioned after fatally striking a pedestrian in her car along the sidewalk Friday morning in Henderson.

According to the Henderson Police Department, the elderly woman was traveling down Hampton Road near Sun City Anthem Drive at around 7 a.m. when it veered off the road for unknown reasons and hit a pedestrian walking safely on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. At this time there is little information on the identity of the victim. The elderly woman was uninjured.

Investigators are questioning the woman, trying to piece together the events of the crash. There is little information as to what possessed the vehicle to suddenly swerve off the road, assault the sidewalk, and strike a pedestrian doing nothing but walking in an area that should never have to deal with oncoming traffic.

Authorities closed down a section of Hampton Road near Dipinto Avenue to clean up the accident and search for anything that could be used to piece together the crash.
