July 1st ─ a collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a woman Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. when Metro police responded to calls of a collision between a 2005 Dodge Caravan and a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The incident occurred at the intersection of Jones Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue. According to investigators and eyewitnesses, a blue 2005 Dodge Caravan was traveling south on Jones Blvd while a black 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling west on Hacienda Avenue. The Dodge Caravan was crossing the intersection when the Chevrolet pickup collided with the driver’s side of the Dodge Caravan. The Chevrolet pickup spun around leaving the road and struck a utility pole. The accident caused the Chevrolet pickup to overturn coming to rest on its roof on Hacienda Avenue. The female driver of the Dodge Caravan was transported to University Medical Center Trauma Unit where she was pronounced dead.

The male driver of the Chevrolet pickup was transported to University Medical Center Trauma Unit as well and showed signs of intoxication. Both parties were later identified by authorities as Alfredo Vazquez-Orozco, 30-years old of Las Vegas, driver of the Chevrolet pickup and Kathleen Dolan, 55-years old, driver of the Dodge Caravan. Orozco was discharged from the Trauma Unit where he was later arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI Involving Death. This collision remains under investigation but it’s clear that excessive speed and driving under the influence appear to be factors in the crash that killed Dolan. This marks the 73rd traffic related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since January 2017.
