An investigation into a brutal accident that killed two people revealed that the cause of the accident was a driver running through a red light.

According to local police, the accident started when a Hummer SUV slammed into a small sedan and then another van in the intersection on Flamingo Road and Swenson Street after running through a red light.

The 58-year-old driver of the Hummer was killed in the initial collision, and the 26-year-old driver of the sedan was pronounced dead after a short time in a nearby hospital.

Other participants in the accident were taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were released.

The names of the two victims have yet to be revealed as the families have not yet been notified.
