LAS VEGAS, CA (June 20, 2022) – On Friday night in Las Vegas, a driver suspected of DUI struck and killed a bicyclist. The victim was identified by family members as Abe Cruz Mendibles.

The June 17 crash occurred on Las Vegas Boulevard North, close to where North Pecos Road is located.

The time was roughly 9:23 p.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.

According to authorities, a vehicle--described as a Chevrolet Cobalt--had been northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard North. The car went off the roadway, according to authorities, and onto the sidewalk where it struck a man who was riding a bicycle.

Responders pronounced the victim deceased at the crash site. Mendibles was a resident of Las Vegas, 41 years old.

Authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI resulting in death, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm. He was identified as Raymond Perez-Hernandez, a resident of Las Vegas, 26 years old.

Investigators are continuing their work into the crash.
