An April 10^th event held by the North Las Vegas Police Department to cut down on distracted driving issued hundreds of citations for cell phone usage and speeding.

In an effort to cut down on the high number of fatal accidents that take place on Vegas’ streets, authorities have been making concentrated efforts to punish drivers for the kinds of behaviors and actions that lead to such dangerous accidents.

The event yielded 34 citations for cell phone usages, and another 39 for speeding. Five were cited for failure to stop for a passing pedestrian. Behaviors like these are hat have caused the number of fatal accidents in 2012 to climb dramatically over the year before.

The other citations issued during the event, according to NLVPD, included 36 driver's license violations, 9 registration violations, 19 equipment violations, 29 no insurance violations, 10 red light violations, 30 other violations,  and 29 warnings issued.
