An accident on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 has caused major slowdowns on the Interstate 15 Thursday morning.

According to police on the scene, a multi-vehicle accident has blocked four lanes of the major roadway, causing lengthy backups and traffic for miles.

There are confirmed injuries as a result of the accident, but the extent of and number of injuries has not yet been released by police officials.

Commuters in the area are being told to take detours around Decatur Boulevard until the highway is back open.
