3 Motorcycle Deaths in 3 Days in Las Vegas

March 7, 2018 | Motorcycle Accident

A string of motorcycle collisions over a 3 day period this weekend on Clark County roads has led to 3 confirmed deaths by Clark County Coroner’s bureau. The 1st motorcycle collision occurred Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Durango Drive and West Sahara Avenue when the motorcyclist collided with an SUV. At this time, North Las Vegas police are not certain why the motorcyclist crashed but have not ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision. The motorcyclist was later identified as 36-year old Timothy Swain. He was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma care in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and died about 3:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon. No fatal accident report has yet been released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The 2nd motorcycle collision occurred Sunday morning at about 11:30 a.m. when 25-year old Victor Manuel Rivas Jr., of North Las Vegas, was traveling at a high rate of speed on East Lake Mead Boulevard until Rivas Jr. lost control of his motorcycle near the intersection with Bruce Street. His body was dragged nearly a half mile before the motorcycle came to a stop. First responders arrived and pronounced Rivas Jr. dead at the scene. His cause and manner of death are pending a complete autopsy and toxicology report by the Clark County coroner’s bureau.

The 3rd motorcycle collision occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after 4:10 p.m. in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area. 31-year old Howard Walls who was traveling north on Larry McBryde Street lost control of his Suzuki GSX-R 750 when he failed to successfully negotiate an L curve at Severance Lane, near the intersection of Farm and Shaumber Roads. Walls’ motorcycle then collided with a block wall and came to a rest on the sidewalk. Walls was rushed to University Medical Center suffering from major blunt force trauma sustained in the collision. He died at about 8:00 p.m. at UMC. His official cause and manner of death is also pending with Clark County Coroner’s bureau.

The 2 Las Vegas deaths are the 19th and 20th traffic fatalities in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for this year. The death in North Las Vegas is the city's 8th traffic fatality since the beginning of this year.
