2 pedestrians are dead after both were struck and killed by vehicles in North Las Vegas and Metro Las Vegas respectively. The 1st incident happened Thursday evening shortly after 9:00 p.m. when North Las Vegas police received reports of a pedestrian-vehicle collision that occurred near the intersection of North Las Vegas Boulevard and McCarran Street.

First responders arrived to find 43-year old Tanya Marie Fischer lying unresponsive in the road way. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, Fischer was found 40 feet from a lighted crosswalk after she was struck by a Hyundai SUV, which could suggest that Fischer was outside of the crosswalk or her body was throw by the impact of the SUV. The driver of the Hyundai remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. NLV police said there were no signs of impairment and that the driver expressed that he did not see Fischer at the time of the collision. Detectives have obtained surveillance footage from nearby businesses and will go through them to determine if the driver was speeding. This was the 12th traffic fatality in North Las Vegas since the beginning of 2018.

The 2nd incident occurred Saturday evening in downtown Las Vegas near the Stratosphere Casino. Nevada Highway Troopers were summoned to respond to a hit-and-run that was reported around 7:44 p.m. near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Industrial Road. NHP troopers arrived to find 59-year old Pearl Emma Toney dead in the roadway. According to a Clark County Coroner’s Office report, Toney died from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. A preliminary investigation suggests that Toney was struck outside of the crosswalk some 30 feet away. The vehicle, described by eyewitnesses as a newer model Toyota Prius, has not been found and authorities are urging the driver to turn themselves in. The investigation is ongoing.
