2 Killed in Fatal Accident on Diamond Bar Road near Grand Canyon West

August 3, 2017 | Car Accident

August 3rd ─ 2 people were killed and 2 more suffered severe injuries when a vehicle collided with a semi-tractor gas tanker on Diamond Bar Road in Meadview near Grand Canyon West Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. when Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident at the mile post marker 11 of Diamond Bar Road, a road along the western part of Grand Canyon National Park. According to Mohave Sheriff’s deputies the gas tanker was traveling west around a curve when the Nissan Pathfinder, traveling east, struck the trailer’s rear axle. This caused the trailer to hit the guardrail along the right side of the road.

The tanker was empty at the time of the collision. Responding deputies discovered a Nissan Pathfinder with the bodies of Karen Foxworth, 60-years old, and Charles Foxworth Sr., 59-years old, of Conyers, Georgia inside. The couple, who were visiting on the area on vacation, were wearing their seatbelts inside the wrecked vehicle. Karen Foxworthy was extricated from the vehicle by emergency first responders, and attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. Rescue and medical first responders arrived on the scene quickly and tried unsuccessfully to save the Charles Foxworth Sr. Karen and her husband Charles were pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

The 2 surviving occupants of the crash were, Laura Foxworth, 19-years old, and Charles Foxworth Jr., 23-years old both of McDonough, Georgia. There were also off-duty medical professionals from out of state who stopped and performed life-saving CPR, which helped in saving the 2 siblings. The siblings sustained serious injuries and were flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. The driver of the gas tanker, Cory Schober, 56-years old, of Phoenix, refused medical treatment, but later complained of pain in his back and was also flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
