Two men are receiving treatment in a Reno hospital after their van rolled out of control in a solo accident Monday morning in Fernley.

Nevada State Troopers reported that 43-year-old David B. Spencer and his 44-year-old passenger Samantha K. Ton of Silver Springs were traveling down US Route 50 at a very high rate of speed at approximately 11 a.m. Monday when their van rolled after failing to navigate a turn.

Spencer was attempting to take a corner, but understeer sent the van into oncoming lanes before sending it off the road all together and into a barbed wire fence.

The van then vaulted into the air and tumbled along the ground like an Olympic gymnast performing a floor exercise before coming to a stop on its roof.

Samantha Ton was ejected from the vehicle during the roll, though Spencer remained inside throughout the ordeal. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue crews airlifted the two to Renown Medical Center in Reno where they are being treated for serious injuries.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no one else was injured by scattered debris or stray barbed wire bits flying through the air.
