Friends, family, and classmates gathered together at a fundraiser to share memories and say goodbye to a Liberty High School student killed Monday in Henderson.

16 year old Isaac Polu was killed in an early morning car accident on the off ramp of the eastbound 215 to southbound Interstate 15.

The BBQ fundraiser was held Thursday morning at Liberty High School to help the Polu family. All proceeds from the event will go to Isaac’s family, and another family that recently had a death in the family. A nighttime vigil was also held to honor the teenager.

Polu was in his freshman year, and was a stalwart on the school’s football team. J.T. Tauanuu, his coach, said of him, “He got along real well with his teammates. As an individual, the guy was a joker and he hung out with a bunch of other jokers on the team. He liked to have fun. He had a very open and spirited personality."

Those that knew the teenager the most remembered him as a goofy kid who loved to be make his friends and family laugh.

Isaac’s 18 year old sister was also in the car during the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she remains today. Her family has reported that her condition is improving. The vehicle was being driven by the two’s 24 year old cousin.

An investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol into the accident revealed that speeding and alcohol were potential factors in the crash.
