One person was killed and four others injured in a two vehicle accident in downtown Las Vegas early Sunday morning.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision took place at the intersection of Flamingo Road and South Koval Lane at 3:40 a.m. as a delivery truck stopped at the intersection was smashed head on by an approaching SUV.

The driver of the delivery truck, a 43-year-old Las Vegas resident, was killed in the crash. His identity has not yet been released.

Four occupants of the SUV, two men and two women ranging in age from 19 to 21, were taken to University Medical Center for a variety of injuries, ranging from minor to serious.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash; at this time there is no word on what prompted the SUV to smash head first into the idle truck.

All lanes of traffic were closed down for hours as crews cleaned up the wreckage and searched for any information that may help piece the accident back together. The accident marks the 51^st traffic related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area so far this year.
