Driver Sentenced in Hit and Run Crash
May 9, 2012 | Car Accident
A hit and run driver from Montana was sentenced for killing a high school teacher and fleeing the scene in Lovelock last December.
47-year-old David Lillie from West Yellowstone, Nevada was sentenced in Churchill County District Court on Tuesday to at least eight years in prison (up to twenty) and almost $3,000 in fines for causing an accident that killed 56-year-old Mary Ryan, a longtime teacher from Pershing County High School.
The crash happened as both were driving eastbound down Interstate 80, 30 miles east of Fernley, when Lillie’s van clipped the back of Ryan’s small car, causing it to roll and crash into the highway’s median. The school teacher was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Lillie attempted to run from the scene of the accident, but was arrested a half mile away. Authorities said he was under the influence of drugs when he caused the crash.
