Pedestrian Death Ruled Suicide
May 9, 2012 | Car Accident
An investigation has determined that a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a passing ambulance in Las Vegas last month committed suicide.
According to the Clark County Coroner’s Office, the collision that killed 46-year-old Carlos Hernandez was the result of the pedestrian looking to end his life.
The crash took place during the night of April 22nd on East Lake Mead Boulevard near Pecos Street. A MedicWest ambulance was on its way to another accident with its emergency lights on when Hernandez made his way across the street outside of the crosswalk and the vehicle slammed into him.
He was immediately taken to University Medical Center after the crash, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the ambulance, a 26-year-old, was not injured in the crash, nor another occupant inside.
The ambulance driver took a blood test after the accident and police were able to determine that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the incident.
